The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Lynchburg College on Wednesday afternoon, falling to 7-2 on the season.
The Eagles jumped ahead less than four minutes into the contest, as Kathleen Namey scored on a Carlee Budd Assist, but the Hornets answered five minutes later on a score from Elaina Ritschard. Lynchburg took a 2-1 lead ten minutes later on a Karissa Lemaire score, but the Eagles tied the score with five minutes left in the half on a Jenna Steele goal.
The lone score of the second half came as Lynchburg's Kelsey Link scored on a Danielle Kreider assist with 24:34 remaining.
The Eagles led in shots, 12-7, and in penalty corners, 24-7. Megan McLaughlin made three saves for UMW, while Namey added a defensive save. Beka Hess had five stops for the Hornets, while Courtney Gillette added a defensive save.
Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they visit Washington & Lee University at 1:00 p.m.
