UMW's Baker, Steele, and Kane Named to VaSID All-State Field Hockey First Team

LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport University garnered all three major awards Thursday as the 2013 All-State College Division Field Hockey Team was announced, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Belle Tunstall earned the Player of the Year award, Carrie Moura was voted the Coach of the Year and Bailey Lien was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year.

Tunstall, a first-team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCHA) All-American, also earned spots on the all-region and all-conference first-teams. She was named the NFHCA South Region Player of the Year while leading the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) with 18 goals and 47 points. Overall, her 47 points place her second on CNU's all-time single-season list, while her 18 goals and 11 assists rank third in program history. Tunstall also was the co-CAC Player of the Year.

Moura led CNU to a 21-2 record this fall, four more wins than any team in program history. In her 11th season at the helm of the program, she guided the Captains into the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four and CNU boasted a 19-game winning streak during the season. Moura is now a four-time All-State Coach of the Year.

Lien, a freshman goalie, allowed just 16 goals all season in the cage, posting a 20-2 record. She made 76 saves on the season and finished with a 0.826 goals-against average and earned a first-team spot on the All-CAC team.

CNU had five student-athletes named to the first-team, followed by the University of Mary Washington with three and Lynchburg and Bridgewater Colleges each with one. Four Captains also dotted the second team with three Lynchburg College Hornets, two Shenandoah University Hornets, and one each from Washington & Lee University and Eastern Mennonite University.
