Five Eagles Named to All-CAC Field Hockey Team

Five Eagles Named to All-CAC Field Hockey Team

YORK, Pa. - CAC regular-season champion Christopher Newport and CAC Tournament champion Salisbury each placed eight players on the 2013 all-conference field hockey team.  Both the Captains and Sea Gulls are preparing to host NCAA regional championship tournaments.

Wesley senior midfielder Madison Leone (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) became the first player in CAC history to tie in the voting for the Player of the Year award twice during her career.  Leone, a four-time first-team all-star and one of four Wesley players on the All-CAC team, shared the honor with Christopher Newport junior Belle Tunstall (Vienna, Va./James Madison).

Also earning special recognition were St. Mary’s freshman forward Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) who was named the CAC Rookie of the Year and a second-team all-star, as well as CNU mentor Carrie Moura, who was named the CAC Coach of the Year.

It’s the third time in four years that a Wolverine won the CAC Player of the Year award.  Leone shared the honor with Mary Washington’s Lisa Charney in 2012, just two years after Brooke Tadlock won the award while wearing Wesley colors.

Wolf is the third St. Mary’s player to win the Rookie of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Lauriann Parker (2009) and Paige Decker (co-winner in 2011).

As a first-year member of the CAC, Tunstall and Moura are the first CNU representatives to win their respective awards.  They were among nine Captains to be honored as part of the 2013 All-CAC team.

A CAC-best five Captains were on the first-team all-star squad, including Tunstall, seniors Marlene Lichty (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and Shelby Judkins (Hampton, Va./Bethel), sophomore Lauren Cheatham (Newport News, Va./Denbigh) and freshman Bailey Lien (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover).

CNU also placed three players on the second-team to tie Salisbury for most representatives on the All-CAC team.  Seniors Jordan Snider (Newport News, Va./Menchville), Chelsea Hines (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) and junior Allie Hackbarth (Hereford, Md./Hereford) were second-team All-CAC selections.

CAC Tournament champions Salisbury earned four first-team all-conference nods and had four more players named to the second team. First-team all-stars for the Gulls include junior Summer Washburn (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy), sophomores Samantha Johnson (Delmar, Md./Delmar), Amanda Cooper (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) and freshman Alexis Carroll (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South).  Washburn was a second-team all-star in 2012.

Second-team all-star honors were awarded to senior Katie Hastings (Elkton, Md./Elkton), Jessica Seay (Port Republic, Md./Calvert), sophomore Courtney Jantzen (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and freshman Yumi Kim (Odenton, Md./Meade).  Hastings is making her second-straight second-team all-star appearance.

Mary Washington, which was ranked in the NFHCA Top 15 all year, earned five All-CAC nods, led by senior first-team forward Caitlin Baker (Falls Church, Va./McLean).  Baker is a four-year CAC all-star who earned first-team honors three times and was the CAC Rookie of the Year in 2010.

UMW sophomore Haley Kane (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) moved up to first-team all-star this year after landing on the second team in 2012.  Second-team honors for the Eagles went to sophomore Jenna Steele (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) for the second time along with classmates Carlee Budd (Delmar, Del./Delmar) and Kathleen Namey (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge).

Wesley had three players join Leone on the All-CAC team, including junior Brooke Gannon (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) on the first team as well as classmate Lauren Mears (Princess Anne, Md./Washington) and sophomore Sarah Daniels (Pokomoke, Md./Washington) on the second team.  Gannon was a second-team all-star in 2012.

St. Mary’s and York each placed three players on the All-CAC second team.

Sophomores Grace Reingruber (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and classmate Ally Dahlen (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) joined Rookie of the Year Wolf in represneting SMC on the All-CAC team.

York placed senior Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna) on the All-CAC second team for the second-straight year, and she was joined by senior Jillian Brezgel (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) and junior Katie Petrillo (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) on the post-season squad.

Frostburg State freshman Alisha Salomon (Laurel, Md./Lake Braddock) also earned second-team all-star recognition, giving all seven conference teams at least one player on the All-CAC squad.
