University of Mary Washington sophomores Jenna Steele and Lizzie Weast, and freshman Emma Olson have been named as CAc Players of the Week for their respective sports for the week of September 2, 2013.
FIELD HOCKEY
Christopher Newport
junior midfielder TAYLOR YOUNG (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and Mary
Washington sophomore forward JENNA STEELE (Rehoboth Beach,
Del./Cape Henlopen) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey
Co-Offensive Players of the Week while Salisbury sophomore back
AMANDA COOPER (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) was selected as the
CAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3,
2013.
Young is the CAC
Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals in each
game during CNU’s season-opening victories over Rhodes and
Hendrix. She added an assist against Rhodes, giving her nine
points for the weekend.
Steele is the CAC
Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a hat trick in a
season-opening 6-0 win over host Rhodes, then adding two goals and
an assist in Sunday’s record-setting triumph over
Hendrix.
Cooper was picked for
the CAC defensive award after leading a defensive unit that allowed
just four shots on goal in two games as the Sea Gulls captured top
honors in a tournament at Wilkes.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Mary Washington
sophomore forward LIZZIE WEAST (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) was
named the CAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
while Christopher Newport freshman goalie HALEY CASANOVA (Ashburn,
Va./Broad Run) was selected as the CAC Women’s Soccer
Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3, 2013.
Weast was named the CAC
Offensive Player of the Week after she contributred to four of
UMW’s seven goals in the opening weekend of the season.
Weast, who finished the 2012 season with a goal and six assists,
had UMW’s lone goal in Friday’s loss at Shenandoah,
then chipped in a goal and two helpers in Saturday’s victory
at Ferrum.
Casanova is the CAC
Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts in
her first weekend of college action. She was credited with
four saves and directed the CNU defense that controlled both
Fredonia State and Meredith.
VOLLEYBALL
Mary Washington freshman
setter EMMA OLSON (Vienna, Va./Oakton) was named CAC Volleyball
Player of the Week for Sept. 3, 2013, after leading the Eagles in
the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational. In addition to
contributing 90 assists in 16 sets, she led the team in kills in
three of UMW’s four matches, finishing with 45 and 34.3
hitting percentage. Olson also added 37 digs, two service
aces and four block assists for the Eagles.
