#10 UMW Field Hockey Falls to #4 CNU, 4-1, in Regular Season Finale

The 10th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to fourth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 15-2 overall, and 4-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Captains jumped ahead, scoring in the openining 10 minutes, as Jordan Snider scored unassisted at 7:17. CNU added another goal at 25:37, as Shelby Judkins connected for an unassisted score off a rebounded shot off the goalkeeper.

In the second half, the Eagles gained ground with a penalty corner score from Kathleen Namey on a Carlee Budd assist, but the Captains scored with 13 minutes elapsed into the second half, and again 10 minutes later to cap the scoring at 4-1.

CNU led in shots, 17-9, and in penalty corners, 12-11. Junior Emily Badis had nine saves and Carlee Budd added one defensive save for the Eagles, while Bailey Lien had three saves for CNU.

Mary Washington will open play in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals next Wednesday at Salisbury University. Game time has yet to be announced.
