Steele Lifts #6 UMW Field Hockey Past Roanoke, 1-0

Sophomore Jenna Steele scored the game's lone goal less than two minutes into the second half to lead the sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 1-0 victory at Roanoke College on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 7-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Steele found the cage for her seventh goal in as many games, providing her second game winner of the year. Her 18 points rank second on the squad.

Mary Washington held a distinct advantage in shots (21-7), and penalty corners (10-1), but could only manage one score against the stingy Maroons defense. UMW goalkeeper Emily Badis had two saves, while Hunter Causey and Kathleen Namey provided defensive saves for the Eagles. Candice Fisher had 13 saves for Roanoke.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Bridgewater College at 4:00 p.m. at the Battleground.
