#6 UMW Field Hockey Team Blanks Eastern Mennonite, 4-0, to Improve to 6-0

The sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team used goals from four different players in blanking Eastern Mennonite University, 4-0, on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. UMW improves to 6-0 on the season.

Junior Christine Downie started the scoring with 25 minutes remaining in the first half, with her shot coming from a scramble in front of goal. The Eagles upped the lead to 2-0 by halftime, as Carlee Budd scored unassisted midway through the half.

In the second, freshman Christine Loehr scored on an assist from senior Caitlin Baker with three minutes left, and Baker capped the scoring in the final minute.

The Eagles led in shots, 37-0, and in penalty corners, 21-1. Mary Beth Danaher had 14 saves in goal for Eastern Mennonite. Mary Washington will return to action on Sunday when they visit Roanoke College at 2:00 p.m.
