MoJo's Four First Half Goals Lead #11 UMW Field Hockey Past York, 6-3

Senior forward Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) scored four first half goals as the 11th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team caged six first half scores in a 6-3 win at York College of Pa. on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 7-2 on the year, and 1-1 in CAC play.

Junior Florence George (Virginia Beach, Va., Princess Anne) opened the scoring less than four minutes into play on an assist from sophomore Brenna Hill (McLean, Va., Langley). Jones scored her first less than two minutes later on a Lisa Charney (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) assist to give UMW a 2-0 lead. The Eagles upped the advantage to 3-0 with 24 minutes remaining on a Charney goal.

After York reached the scoreboard, Jones scored with 13 minutes remaining and twice in a 20-second span with six minutes left to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead. York scored just before halftime, and again with 29 minutes remaining in the second half to reach the final 6-3 margin.

York led in shots and penalty corners. Claire Gianelle (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) had five saves in goal for the Eagles in 45 minutes, and freshman Emily Badis (Kennett Square, Pa., Kennett) added three stops in 25 minutes. York had two keepers combine for one save.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they visit Eastern Mennonite University at 2:00 p.m.
