MoJo's Four Goals Lead #18 UMW Field Hockey Past Stevenson, 9-1

Senior forward Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) scored four goals and added one assist to move into second place in the school career scoring column in a 9-1 Capital Athletic Conference win over Stevenson University on Saturday for Homecoming in Fredericksburg. The Eagles move to 14-4 on the season, matching last year's win total, and 5-2 in conference play.

Jones opened the scoring at 13:37 on a rebound off the keeper's pads, and sophomore Caitlin Baker (Falls Church, Va., McLean) added an unassisted goal at 20:51. Junior Lisa Charney (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax) scored unassisted at 30:49, sparking UMW to three goals in the final five minutes of the half. Jones scored again at 33:09, and Charney scored again at 34:12, to move the halftime score to 5-0.

Jones scored just 35 seconds into the second half, and Baker added another less than a minute later to add to the lead. Junior Florence George (Virginia Beach, Va., Princess Anne) scored on a Jones assist at 44:06, and Jones capped the Eagles' scoring at 48:21.

In all, Mary Washington led in shots, 28-3, and had 16 penalty corners to two for the Mustangs. Emily Badis (Kennett Square, Pa., Kennett) and Claire Gianelle (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) each had one save for the Eagles.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Thursday when they host Bridgewater College at 4:00 p.m.
