UMW Riding Team Captures Region Championship; Five Take Top Honors in Home Show

The University of Mary Washington won the region championship for the second straight season, clinching the title with five first place finishes in its second home show in as many days at Hazlewild Farm on Sunday.

Kimberly Counts won her open on the flat class, and was awarded the high point rider for the region. She will advance to the IHSA National show as part of the Cacchione Cup competition.

Other winners for the Eagles on Sunday were Daniel Odum in novice on the flat, Bryn Huxoll in novice over fences, Victoria Shiel in walk trot canter, and Derek Nease in walk trot.

The Eagles will have several athletes competing at the regional championships next Sunday, also hosted at Hazelwild Farm.
