University of Mary Washington sophomore Kathleen Wallace (Midlothian, Va., Midlothian) finished in first place in her novice equitation over fences class at the zone championship show at Goucher College on Saturday. Wallace will advance to the IHSA National Championship Show in Lexington, Kentucky next month.

Wallace becomes the third UMW rider to advance to the national show in the past four years, and hopes to join Mary Ryan Richardson and Jessica Van Brocklin, who have won national championships in recent years.
