Eight Eagles Earn All-C2C Baseball Honors

The Mary Washington baseball team had eight members named to the All-Coast-to-Coast Conference teams on Thursday morning, the conference announced.

Five Eagles -- Gavin Riley (pitcher), Gabe Delgado (pitcher), Oliver Martin (catcher), Tommy Martinez (third base), and Ty Lowe (designated hitter) -- were named to the All-Coast-to-Coast Conference First Team. Justin Ritz (pitcher), Connor Hassan (pitcher) and Ryan Schwarz (utility) were Coast-to-Coast Honorable Mentions.

Riley, a left-handed pitcher, tossed a team-high 60.1 innings, while recording a 2.09 ERA -- good for second best in the conference. Riley struck out 51 hitters -- good for third in the C2C Conference -- while walking just 20. The Stafford, Va. native was the lone starting pitcher in the conference to not record a loss after winning seven games in his 10 starts.

Delgado, meanwhile, was solid on the bump for the Eagles as the graduate student NCAA Division III career-best 2.93 ERA in 40 innings. Delgado made five starts for the Eagles during his final season, while pitching in 11 games. Against Hood earlier this season, Delgado pitched the Eagles' lone complete game (seven innings) of the season. In his 40 innings, Delgado struck out 33 hitters, good for a 7.42 K/9 mark.

Martin, a freshman, burst on to the scene for UMW as the squad's everyday catcher after hitting .333 in 35 games this season. Martin doubled three times, homered once and drove in 15 runs. His ability to make contact and draw walks stood out this season as he doubled up his walks (18) compared to his strikeouts (9).

Martinez took over as the everyday third baseman for UMW this past season and didn't disappoint after recording a .331 average and a .396 on-base-percentage in his junior season. On Tuesday against Stockton, Martinez's first inning grand slam powered the Eagles in their victory.

Lowe, a four-time member of the All-C2C team, became the Eagles' all-time RBI record holder this past season with 155 (and more) in his career. As a senior, Lowe drove in a team-high and conference-high 46 runs, while recording a .396 batting average to go along with three homers and 15 doubles.

Ritz, who was an honorable mention in 2023, went 3-2 in 10 total games (nine starts), as he racked up a career-best 3.83 ERA as a senior in 2024. Ritz struck out 43 batters to join the 100-strikeout club at UMW (139 career strikeouts).

Hassan, meanwhile, was electric for the Eagles coming out of the bullpen early in the season before moving into a starting role later in the season, Hassan, who recorded sive saves in 2024, is two away from breaking the program record. The freshman struck out 33 batters in 26.1 innings, which is good for an 11.28 K/9 rate, while yielding a 3.76 ERA.

Schwarz earned his first All-C2C honors after hitting .350 to go along with nine doubles, two triples, two home runs and 26 RBIs. Schwarz walked more times (15) than he struck out (14).

The Eagles are back in action on Friday with a matchup with Salisbury in Newport News for the C2C Semifinal.
