Lowe Breaks Program Career RBI Mark as Mary Washington Baseball Sweeps DH Against Southern Virginia

Led by Ty Lowe's five RBIs across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Mary Washington baseball team downed Southern Virginia in a pair of seven-inning doubleheaders in Fredericksburg, Va.

And with it, Lowe became the Eagles' all-time leader in RBIs, surpassing Eric Fitzgerald's ('07) mark of 150 career RBIs with 154 of his own.

Game 1 - Eagles win - 11-1

The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings after scoring a run in the first, then a pair in the second. In the first, Ty Lowe doubled home Noah Roots with two outs, then Luke Guerzon picked up an RBI single in the second inning, followed by a wild pitch that Schwarz scored on with two outs.

The Knights would get a run back in the top of the third to chip into the lead a bit, but the Eagles scored one more in the fourth on George Rizzo's RBI double to increase the lead to 4-1.

The Eagles then scored six in the fifth to break the game open. It began with Schwarz's RBI single, then followed by Jacob Christenbury's RBI walk, Noah Roots' bases-clearing triple, and finally, Lowe's RBI sac fly (which broke the career RBI mark) to push the lead to 10-1. UMW scored another in the sixth on Guerzon's second RBI single of the afternoon.

Gabe Delgado got the start for the Eagles as the senior worked 5.1 innings of one-run ball, striking out a pair while recording his fifth win of the season. Ryan Dudak recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning, while Eric McDaniel pitched a scoreless seventh.

Game 2 - Eagles win - 8-4

Mary Washington fell behind by three runs in the top of the first after a two-out error prolonged the inning, but the Eagles went on to tie it in the bottom half. Schwarz picked up the first run for the Eagles when he tripled home Jacob Christenbury, then Lowe doubled home a pair of runners to tie it at three apiece with a long fly ball that slammed off the wall in left field.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Eagles busted through with a four-run inning that began with a bases-loaded balk to score the first run, then Guerzon recorded another RBI single, while Guerzon later stole second which drew a throw and allowed Oliver Martin to swipe home. And finally, Christenbury recorded an RBI ground out to score the final run of the frame.

The Knights scored a run in the fifth to draw a little closer, 7-4, but the Eagles would put them away with a run Lowe's RBI single to put them away for good.

Jackson Myers recorded his second win of the year as he tossed 4.2 innings, yielding four unearned runs. Ryan Northup recorded the final seven out for the Eagles.

Mary Washington is back in action on Wednesday with a matchup at Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
