UMW Baseball Falls to No. 25 Marymount, 10-3

Despite an early lead, the Mary Washington baseball team (22-9) was unable to overcome an offensive barrage from No. 25 Marymount in a 10-3 loss to the Saints in Tysons, Va. on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles, who were winners of five-straight coming into Wednesday, took an early 3-1 lead with a three-run second inning. Ryan Schwarz drove in the first run after reaching on a throwing error that allowed Bobby Ayscue to score from second base. Then, Schwarz took home on a throwing error from Marymount's catcher after stealing third a few pitches later. And finally, Oliver Martin would record a sac fly to left field that scored Tommy Martinez from third.

But the Saints would score nine runs across the second and fourth innings to take a 10-3 lead -- and that's where the final score would end up.

In a bullpen day, Jackson Beale (two innings), Peyton Chavis (one inning), Jackson Myers (one inning) and Ryan Dudak (one inning) would all work scoreless innings from the fifth through the eighth.

The Eagles scattered seven hits as Martinez was the only Eagle to pick up a multi-hit game.

Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday with a matchup at No. 5 Salisbury. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
