Riley, Kotula, Bats Down Randolph-Macon (RV) on Tuesday afternoon

Tuesday's 7-3 victory at Randolph-Macon (RV) for the Mary Washington baseball team (23-8) was nothing short of a total team effort as the Eagles recorded 12 total hits and allowed just two earned runs en route to the win.

Gavin Riley received the start for the Eagles -- and as usual -- did not disappoint as he tossed five innings of one-run ball for the Eagles, while striking out three and giving the Eagles a good enough start to come out as winners on Tuesday.

The offense, meanwhile, spotted Riley an early lead in the top of the first inning when Noah Roots gave the Eagles the lead with a ground ball that drove in Jacob Christenbury. And from there, Riley was nearly untouchable for the first three innings.

In the fourth, though, the Yellow Jackets were able to get to Riley as they tied the game with an RBI single, but the Eagles would take the lead right back in the fifth as George Rizzo recorded the first of three RBIs with a single that scored Tommy Martinez, 2-1.

Riley finished his day after recording the final out in the fifth, and departed with a one-run lead as head coach Kelly Swiney would turn to Jamie Kotula in the bottom of the sixth. But before Kotula took the mound, the Eagles spotted him a six-run lead with a five-run sixth inning.

It all started with Martinez's RBI single that scored Noah Roots, then Rizzo would pick up the second hit of his day with a two-RBI double that scored both Ty Lowe and Martinez. And finally, Christenbury doubled home Rizzo and Oliver Martin to give UMW a 7-1 lead.

Kotula then took the mound in the sixth, yielding a solo home run with two outs, but quickly bounced back to finish the inning with a strikeout. In the seventh, Kotula worked around a two-out single to post his first scoreless inning. In the eighth, a two-out error led to an unearned run scoring, but that was as close as the Yellow Jackets would get as Kotula pitched a scoreless ninth inning and recorded his first save of the season.

Christenbury, Lowe, Martinez, Martin and Rizzo each recorded a pair of hits each, while Bobby Ayscue and Ryan Schwarz recorded a base hit each.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday night with a matchup at No. 25 Marymount at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
