UMW Baseball Falls to Case Western in NCAA Tournament

The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell behind early, and couldn't catch back up in a 16-2 loss to Case Western Reserve on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Tournament first round in Marietta, Ohio. The Eagles slip to 28-15 on the season.

Case started the game with a three-run home run in each of the first two innings, and added three more in the third. UMW scored in the bottom of the third, as Andrew Gerhart produced a one-out single, advanced to second on a walk by Jacob Christenbury, and scored on an error.

The Eagles added another run in the sixth, as Ty Lowe doubled, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.

Ryan Schwarz led the Eagles with two singles and a walk in four plate appearances. Jackson Myers took the loss, allowing eight runs on four hits in 2.1 innings, with four walks and four strikeouts.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday in the second round,as the Eagles face Adrian College at 11:00 a.m.
