UMW Baseball Caps Regular Season with 16-7 Win at Penn St.-Harrisburg

The University of Mary Washington baseball team erupted for nine runs in the first inning, and rapped out 15 hits in a 16-7 victory at Penn State-Harrisburg on Monday afternoon. UMW enters the postseason with a 27-13 record.

Ty Lowe and Ryan Schwarz opened the first inning scoring with a pair of RBI singles, and Andrew Gerhart followed with a bases-loaded single to plate a pair of runs. With two outs, Jacob Christenbury connected for a three-run homer, and Jonathan Sedmak followed with another homer to go back to back.

Harrisburg scored two in the first, one in the second, and another in the third to draw to within 9-4. In the fifth, Guerzon added a solo home run, and the Eagles scored four in the eighth, as Bobby Ayscue posted an RBI single before Lowe added his name to the home run column with a three-run shot. Sedmak capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run double.

Lowe went 3-5 with a homer and four RBI, while Sedmak was 3-5 with a double, homer, three runs scored, and three RBI. Guerzon singled and homered, and Christenbury added a home run and three RBI.

Junior Brendan McComber gained the win to improve to 8-1, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will face Christopher Newport University in game one of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Salisbury, Md., at noon on Friday.
