#32 UMW Baseball Tops Bridgewater, 8-6, on Wednesday

The 32nd ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team jumped out to an early advantage and held off a late charge to defeat Bridgewater College, 8-6, on Wednesday afternoon in Bridgewater. The Eagles improve to 20-7 on the season.

UMW scored three runs in the second inning, as Cooper Fulton provided an RBI single, and Jacob Christenbury followed with a two run single. Bridgewater scored a pair in their half of the second, but UMW added another in the third on a Luke Guerzon sacrifice fly.

The visiting Eagles added another in the fourth, on a Fulton sac fly, and another in the fifth on a Noah Roots RBI double.Bridgewater scored three in the sixth to pull to within one, but UMW answered with two in the seventh. Bobby Ayscue provided a sacrifice fly, and scored on a single from Ty Lowe. Bridgewater added a run in the seventh, but would pull no closer.

Lowe went 3-4 with a double and two singles to lead the offense, while Roots and Ayscue each had a single and double. Ryan Schwarz had a pair of hits.

Jackson Beale gained the win in relief, with one inning pitched. Lowe came on for his second save, allowing one hit in 2.2 innings, with one strikeout.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Susquehanna University for a 1:00 doubleheader.
