UMW Baseball Tops Keystone, 7-1, to Close Spring Break Trip

The University of Mary Washington baseball team plated runs in five different innings in building a seven-run cushion in a 7-1 victory over Keystone College on Sunday morning in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles improve to 9-5 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead with a pair of runs in the second, with Burke Steifman and Xavier Herring posting RBI singles. In the third, Bobby Ayscue was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a single from Ty Lowe

Herring singled in the fourth and stole second before scoring on a single from Jacob Christenbury to up the lead to 4-0. In the sixth, Steifman singled and Herring doubled before sacrifice flys from Jonathan Sedmak ad Christenbury. UMW scord in the seventh, as Lowe doubled and scored on a passed ball.

Herring led the offense with two singles and a double, while Lowe added a single, double, and two walks. Freshman Jackson Myers gained the win, allowing four hits and no runs in six innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.

The Eagles will host Randolph-Macon College on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
