UMW Baseball Falls at Bridgewater, 7-6, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision at Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 14-11 on the season.

Bridgewater scored runs in the second and third to take the lead, but UMW responded with three in the fourth to grab the lead. Jonathan Sedmak walked and moved to third on a double from Owen Reilly, and Ty Lowe singled to drive in one run. Noah Roots followed with an RBI groundout, and Xavier Herring added an RBI single for another score.

UMW added a run in the fifth, as Alex Purgason walked and scored on a Bobby Ayscue double. UMW scored again in the sixth, as Herirng and Chris Rubano singled before Jacob Christenbury provided an RBI single. Bridgewater scored four in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead, but UMW tied the score in the seventh, as Sedmak singled and scored on a Lowe hit. Bridgewater scored one in the eighth and held on for the narrow win.

Sedmak had two hits and three walks in reaching base five times for UMW, while Reilly singled and doubled. Lowe and Herring each had two hits.

Brendan McComber allowed one earned run in six innings on six hits, walking four and striking out four, while Ryan Dudak allowed one run on two hits in two innings in taking the loss.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when the Eagles host Christopher Newport University for a noon doubleheader.
