UMW Baseball Tops Southern Va., 10-4, on Tuesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team roared out to an early 7-0 lead, and held on for a 10-4 victory over Southern Virginia University on Tuesday at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 14-10 on the season.

UMW quickly moved ahead with three runs in the first. Bobby Ayscue led off with a triple and scored on a double from Owen Reilly, and Noah Roots and Sam Freeborne followed with run-producing doubles. The Eagles added three more in the second, as Jacob Christenbury walked and Ayscue singled, and Jonathan Sedmak followed with an RBI single. Ty Lowe followed with a two-run single to give UMW a 6-0 cushion.

The Eagles added another in the third, as Norman Holcomb and Christenbury singled before Ayscue added another single, producing another run. Southern Virginia scored one in the fifth, but the Eagles answered with one in the sixth on a double from Sedmak and single from Lowe, and, after another SVU run in the seventh, the Eagles scored two in their half, as Christenbury stole home for one score, and Reilly added another RBI on a groundout, scoring Ayscue, who had been hit by a pitch.

Ayscue had a triple and two singles and Sedmak added two singles and a double for the Eagles, while Lowe had three hits and Roots and Christenbury each had two hits.
