UMW Baseball Splits Sunday DH with Marymount

The University of Mary Washington baseball team split its Sunday doubleheader with Marymount University, winning the opener, 8-1, before falling in game two, 24-4. The Eagles move to 13-10 on the season.

In the opener, sophomore Alex Kobersteen went the distance, allowing one second inning run and only two hits in seven innings in gaining the win. UMW scored one in the third, as Xavier Herring walked and Jacob Christenbury and Bobby Ayscue singled to load the bases, before Owen Reilly plated Herring on a fielder's choice. UMW went ahead in the fifth, as Herring doubled, moved to third on a bunt, and scored on an Ayscue single.

In the sixth, UMW erupted for six, as Christenbury hit a bases-loaded double, and Noah Roots added a run-producing double before the Eagles scord a pair of runs on wild pitches.

Christenbury led UMW with a single and double, with three RBI, while Ayscue added a pair of hits. Kobersteen walked two and struck out six for his third win.

In the nightcap, UMW was held to four hits, as Andrew Gerhart's three-run double was the key hit. Ayscue, Ty Lowe, and Luke Guerzon also collected hits.

UMW will return to action on Tuesday, when the Eagles host Southern Virginia University at 3:00 p.m.
