UMW Baseball Tops St. Mary's, 13-5, on Wednesday in C2C Action

Freshman third baseman Ty Lowe went 5-5 with three RBI and junior left fielder Sam Freeborne added four hits and three RBI to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 13-5 victory at St. Mary's College (Md.) in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-13 overall, and 6-7 in league play. 

The Eagles scored one in the first, as Garrett Lyons walked and scored on a Lowe double. UMW upped the lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the third, as Jonathan Sedmak scored on a Lowe single, and Lyons followed with a run by stealing home.

St. Mary's scored two in the third and three in the fourth to grab a 5-3 advantage, but UMW would go on to score the last 10 runs for the victory. The Eagles posted four in the sixth as Lowe and Noah Roots provided RBI singles, and Freeborne added a two-run single. Sedmak would score on a David Lambertson RBI single in the seventh.

The Eagles erupted for five in the ninth, as Lambertson and Nick Ciuffreda each posted RBI singles, another scored on an error, and Roots stole home before a Caleb McAlister RBI single.

Freshman Brendan McComber gained the win, allowing five runs on 11 hits in 7.2 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. Ryan Dudak pitched 1.1 innings of hitless relief to gain the save.

The Eagles will host Salisbury University on Friday at 3:30 pm in another C2C contest.
