UMW's Lambertson Named C2C Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2021 baseball season. Mary Washington senior outfielder David Lambertson earned C2C Player of the Week accolades, while Salisbury senior Jimmy Adkins claimed C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: David Lambertson - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior outfielder David Lambertson hit .615 this week, going 8-13 at the plate, with three runs scored and four RBI. He scored three multi-hit games this week against St. Mary's, as the Eagles took two of three from the Seahawks. He had a single and double with an RBI in the Eagles 7-6, 12 inning loss on Wednesday. He had three hits in each of the Eagles' doubleheader wins on Saturday, scoring one and driving in two in the opener, and adding two runs and an RBI in the nightcap.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Jimmy Adkins - Salisbury

Salisbury senior Jimmy Adkins mystified Christopher Newport over seven scoreless innings in the third-ranked Sea Gulls' series-opening win on April 7. In just his second start of the year, Adkins scattered five hits and walked two while striking out nine on 108 pitches. In his two starts, Adkins has given up just three runs in 14.1 innings (1.88 ERA) with 15 punchouts.

LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS

Never one to speak softly, Justin Meekins carried a big stick for third-ranked Salisbury in their series win over CNU. Meekins hit .429 and slugged 1.000, belting two doubles and two home runs, scoring three runs and driving in two. He homered in the first two games of the series, including a leadoff blast on April 9, to give himself four straight games with a round-tripper. Meekins leads the C2C in batting average (.438) and home runs (5) while ranking top-five in RBIs (15) and stolen bases (7)...Joey Bryner let St. Mary's from the plate with a .529 batting average. The senior first baseman recorded nine hits, two doubles, one home run and five RBI to his stat line. The Leonardtown, Maryland native tallied three hits in a 7-6 walk-off victory over Mary Washington on Apr. 7. The Seahawk baseball team finished the week with a 1-2 record...Christopher Newport sophomore Kyle Schofield notched a pair of multi-hit games and ran his hitting streak to seven with three games against No. 3 Salisbury this week...Hit .417 with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored and two extra-base hits...Homered in the Captains win over the nationally-ranked Sea Gulls...Matt Gaither appeared twice against third-ranked Salisbury University without allowing a run ... Tossed 3.2 innings, striking out three...Southern Virginia senior Tyler Callens had a productive week in the DH spot for the Knights, finishing the week with three hits, including a triple and a home run, four RBIs, and a slash line of .375/.444/1.000. The senior's best game came against Hampden-Sydney in which he went 1-2 with a two-run homer and a walk. Callens leads the Knights in batting average, RBIs, and slugging percentage...Josh Trentadue made relief appearances in two games this week, the first in a close 7-5 to Ferrum. The freshman struck out seven batters in four innings thrown while giving up no earned runs. His second appearance came against Hampden-Sydney in which he pitched 3.1 innings, striking out three and allowing only one earned run and three hits. The Richmond, Virginia, native finished the week with a 1.23 ERA and 12.27 K/9 rate.
