Bryce Runey Named CAC Baseball Player of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2020 baseball season. Mary Washington senior catcher Bryce Runey earned CAC Player of the Week accolades, while Salisbury senior Braden Stinar claimed CAC Pitcher of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bryce Runey -  Mary Washington

Senior catcher Bryce Runey hit .538 in 13 at bats, with a double and home run this week as Mary Washington won three of four. Runey connected for an RBI in each game this week, walking three times for a .588 obp% and an .846 slug%.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Braden Stinar - Salisbury

Salisbury senior Braden Stinar got the start on the mound against Oswego State on Sunday afternoon and pitched seven full innings while allowing only one unearned run to score. The righty surrendered six hits -- all singles -- and struck out two batters while picking up his second win of the season in the 6-1 Salisbury victory.

LEAGUE NOTES

Salisbury sophomore Stephen Rice slashed .600/.714/.1.000 in two games last week for the No. 9 Sea Gulls. The infielder went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and drew a walk while scoring three times...St. Mary's first-year Travis Rinker led the Seahawks from the plate this week with a .333 batting average. The first year catcher also led the Seahawks with two home runs to help the Seahawks win an 18-16 offensive shootout over Ithaca on Sunday (Mar. 1). In addition, Rinker finished the week with five RBI, five runs, and three hits. The Seahawk baseball team concluded the week with a 1-1 record, falling to Hampden-Sydney and defeating Ithaca...Christopher Newport sophomore Michael Martorano hit .429 (3-7) in two games this week with a pair of extra-base hits ... Smashed his second home run of the season, a three-run shot to pull the Captains within one of the nationally-ranked R-MC Yellow Jackets ... Added 2-for-3 effort against Washington & Lee with a double ... Scored three runs, drove in three, and walked once...Senior Tyler Jumper posted two scoreless innings of relief facing one more than the minimum in games against Randolph-Macon and Washington & Lee...Struck out three...Mary Washington freshman Zach Adams gained his first collegiate win on Sunday in a 10-6 victory over previously undefeated McDaniel.The freshman allowed one earned run on seven hits in five innings, walking three and striking out two...Mitch Tyse for the second consecutive week led the Southern Virginia offense. Tyse hit .333 with three hits including a double and a homer while manufacturing four RBIs. He currently leads the CAC in home runs (3) and is second in RBIs (14) after this weekend and extends the Knights to 8-3 on the season.
