UMW Baseball Drops CAC Opening Twinbill at Salisbury on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at Salisbury University on Saturday, falling 8-2 and 18-3. The Eagles slip to 3-6 on the season.

In game one, the Eagles jumped ahead, as senior Tyler Ray led off the game with a solo home run. The Sea Gulls scored in the bottom of the inning, and added another in the third, before scoring three in the sixth and three in the eighth.The Eagles plated one run in the ninth, as Marcel Barrett reached on an error and scored on a groundout from David Lambertson.

Garrett Lyons and Stephen Johnston each doubled for the Eagles. Hank Biggs took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits in six innings, with no walks and two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, UMW again scored first, as Barrett connected for a two-run single in the second. The Sea Gulls erupted for 18 runs on 16 hits, while the Eagle defense committed six errors. UMW scored in the ninth as Chris Rubano walked and scored on a fielder's choice.

Johnston took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings, with three walks.

The Eagles will conclude the series with the Sea Gulls on Sunday at noon.
