UMW Baseball Falls to Shenandoah, 4-2, on Wednesday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 3-4 on the season.

After trading scores frames through the first three innings, the Hornets plated four runs in the fourth on three hits and an error in an inning that saw them score all of their runs on the day. The Eagles answered with a run in the fifth, as Marcel Barrett doubled, Norman Holcomb was hit by a pitch, and Stephen Johnston walked before David Lambertson singled home Barrett.

UMW cut the deficit to 4-2 in the eighth, as senior Kevin France doubled and advanced to third and home on a pair of groundouts, with Barrett picking up the RBI. The Eagles challenged in nearly every frame, but stranded 14 runners on the day.

Lambertson led the Eagles with three hits, while Tyler Ray, Barrett, Nick Bass, and France all contributed two hits to the Eagles' 13 hit attack. Ray took the loss, allowing three earned runs in four innings on five hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they visit Salisbury University for the CAC opener at 3 p.m.
