UMW Baseball Falls at #5 Christopher Newport, 5-0, on Tuesday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision at fifth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Tuesday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 15-12-1 overall, and 4-6 in league play.

The Captains scored single runs in of the first three innings, and added a pair in the eighth for their five runs. The Eagles posted seven hits, including four by senior outfielder Mark Smith, and a double from junior Ramsis Ruiz. CNU had five runs on ten hits, and committed the game's only error.

Sophomore Christian Hague took the loss for the Eagles, allowing three earned runs on four hits in 2.1 innings, with three walks and one strikeout. Jonathan Truba followed with three innings of four-hit scoreless relief, and Alex Shapiro followed with two no-hit frames. Bryant White allowed the eighth inning scores in .2 of an inningwith two hits allowed, a walk, and a strikeout.

The Eagles will be back on the road in CAC action on Thursday when they visit Southern Virginia University at 3:45 p.m.
