The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 21-6 decision at Salisbury University on Tuesday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles fall to 17-18 on the season.
Salisbury jumped on top quickly, scoring eight runs in the first inning. The Eagles got one run back in the fourth, as Thomas Weaver scored on a Kyle Bynum single. The Sea Gulls would score two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to up the lead to 12-1.
Junior David Slupek connected for a two-run home run in the sixth for the Eagles, but Salisbury scored one in the sixth and five in the seventh. UMW got three in the eighth, as Slupek was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bynum added a two-run single.
The Sea Gulls plated three in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Slupek, Bynum, Weaver, and Brian Burns each had two hits for the Eagles. Bryant White took the loss for the Eagles, who used seven pitchers on the day.
UMW will be back in action on Thursday in the double elimination tournament, facing Christopher Newport, who fell to Marymount, 7-6, on Tuesday, at 9:00 a.m.
