UMW Baseball Falls at Apprentice, 5-4, on Tuesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision at Newport News Apprentice School on Tuesday. The Eagles slip to 11-11 on the season.

The Eagles started the scoring, plating one run in the first inning. Reed Farrier reached on an error, and moved to second on a single from Robert Cross. Both runners advanced on a single from Kyle Bynum, and with the bases loaded, Stephen Johnston gave UMW the lead with a sacrifice fly.

After the Builders tied the score with a run in the seocnd, UMW went back ahead with three runs in the fourth. Bynum led off with a single, and stole second. Johnston walked, and Bynum advanced to third on a fly out. Christian Hague provided a sacrifice fly, and Bryce Runey added a single. 

Both runners advanced on a passed ball, and Garrett Lyons drove home two runs with a single. The Knights scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to take the win.

Bynum and Runey each had two hits for the Eagles. 

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Christopher Newport at 3 p.m.
