UMW Baseball Drops Twinbill to Salisbury in CAC Saturday Action

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference games to Salisbury University on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles dropped the opener, 7-1, before falling 19-5 in the nightcap.

The Eagles dropped the opener, as Salisbury opened with two runs in the first. UMW got one run back in the third, as Ramsis Ruiz singled on a bunt and advanced to second on the errant throw to first. Ruiz moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored on a Bryce Runey sacrifice fly. Salisbury added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the seventh.

Ruiz and Reed Farrier provided hits for the Eagles. Sophomore Hank Biggs took the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. Bryant White pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits with a walk against one strikeout.

In the nightcap, Salisbury broke on top with two runs in the first, and added three more in the second. The Eagles scored a pair in the third, as David Slupek connected for a two-run home run. Salisbury broke the game open with five runs in the fourth, and added one in the sixth and three in the eighth before scoring five in the ninth.

UMW plated three runs in the ninth, as Ruiz ripped a two-run triple to right, and scored on a wild pitch.

Slupek, Robert Cross, and Stephen Johnston each had two hits in game two, with Slupek and Ruiz each adding two RBI.

Cole Jarvis took the loss for the Eagles, allowing the two first inning runs for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Monday when they host Virginia Wesleyan College at 3:00 p.m.
