Hague Powers UMW Baseball to 15-5 Win Over Bridgewater on Saturday Night in Fayetteville, N.C.

Freshman outfielder Christian Hague hit two doubles and a home run to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 15-5 victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday evening in Fayetteville, N.C. Stephen Johnston and Thomas Weaver each had a pair of hits for the Eagles, who improve to 1-1 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead with a five-run first inning. Weaver singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Weaver scored on an error, Johnston singled and reached third on another error, plating Brian Burns. Kyle Bynum followed with an RBI single, and he moved to third on a Hague double. Tyler Truslow followed with a two-run double to put UMW ahead, 5-0.

In the second inning, Weaver led off with a double and moved to third on a Burns single. Johnston followed with an RBI single, and Bynum then added a sacrifice fly to score another run. After Hague doubled and Truslow was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Bryce Runey produced an RBI single, and Robert Cross walked with the bases full to add the Eagles' ninth run.

After Bridgewater cut the deficit to 9-3 with three runs in the third, Weaver scored an unearned run, and Hague followed with a three run homer to push the lead to 13-3. In the fourth, UMW added a pair of runs, as Burns reached on an RBI fielder's choice, and Johnston hit a sacrifice fly.

Hague went 3-4 with two doubles and a homer, his first collegiate blast. Weaver singled, doubled, and walked twice, and Johnston added a pair of hits and a walk.

Senior Mick McIntyre gained the win for the Eagles, allowing one earned run in 6.0 innings, allowing six hits, one walk, and struck out eight.

UMW will be back in action on Sunday, when they face DeSales University in Fayetteville at 11:00 a.m.
