UMW Baseball Falls at #16 Frostburg in CAC Sunday Twinbill

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a Sunday doubleheader at Frostburg State University, 5-4 and 10-3. The Eagles fall to 21-14 overall and 5-10 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

In the opener, Frostburg State scored one in the first and fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles answered in a big way in the sixth, drilling in four runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Thomas Weaver and Ramsis Ruiz scored when James Keller singled to left field. Mitch Moynihan then scored when Stephen Johnston reached on a fielder's choice. James Sink then singled up the middle to score Keller.

Both teams went scoreless in the seventh before the Bobcats narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the eighth. The Bobcats then hit a two-run walk-off to take the win.

Erik Jorgensen took the loss for the Eagles. Ryan Van Assche pitched 7.0 innings, while striking out 10 and giving up one earned-run.

In second game, Frostburg State jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning, before adding two more in the third to push the lead to 6-0.

The Eagles scored in the sixth when David Slupek singled to center to drive in Kyle Bynum. The Bobcats matched the Eagles in the sixth, with the score now at 7-1.

The Eagles scored two more to cut the deficit to 7-3 in the fifth off a two-run shot from Keller. The Bobcats closed out the game with another run in the seventh, and two in the eighth.

Bernard Mayflower took the loss on the mound for the Eagles, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up four earned-runs. Nick McIntyre and Paul McClure gave up two earned-runs each, pitching 4.2 and 1.0 innings, respectively.

The Eagles are back in action on Monday at 3:00pm as they host Virginia Wesleyan College.
