UMW Baseball Falls at Bridgewater, 17-4, on Thursday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 17-4 decision at Bridgewater College on Thursday in nonconference action. The Eagles slip to 21-12 on the season.

Bridgewater started the scoring with four runs in the first inning, but UMW answered with two in the third. James Keller reached on an error and Kyle Bynum walked, and both runners advanced on a balk before Stephen Johnston doubled home both runners.

Bridgewater added two runs in their half of the third, and scored eight times in the fourth before plating two runs in the fifth.

UMW struck for two runs in the seventh, as Mitch Moynihan doubled and Bynum singled, before Johnston hit another two-run double, accounting for all four UMW runs batted in. Bridgewater capped the scoring with a run in the seventh, and the game was called due to darkness after eight innings.

Bynum had three hits and two runs scored in addition to Johnston's two doubles and four RBI. Moynihan added a single and double to UMW's 12-hit attack.

The Eagles used six pitchers in the game, with senior David Phillips taking the loss after allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk in one inning.

Mary Washington will be back in action for a key Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at Frostburg State University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
