#18 UMW Baseball Falls at St. Mary's, 6-5, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision at St. Mary's College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles fall to 16-8 overall, and 1-6 in CAC play.

The Seahawks jumped ahead with a pair of runs in the first and one in the third. UMW gained two runs back in the fourth to trim the deficit to one. James Keller led off with a walk, and Kyle Bynum followed with a two-run home run.

After St. Mary's got two runs in the bottom of the fourth, UMW scored twice more in the sixth. Bynum doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball. After David Slupek walked, Stephen Johnston followed with a single to plate Bynum. Slupek scored on a Ramsis Ruiz groundout.

St. Mary's added a run in the sixth, to raise the lead to 6-4. In the eighth, UMW added a run as Bynum tripled and scored on a groundout from Slupek.

Bynum finished a single shy of the cycle, with a double, triple, and home run, accounting for five runs with three runs scored and two RBI. Johnston added a single and a double.

Bernard Mayflower pitched two innings of perfect relief for the Eagles, and Erik Jorgensen pitched a spotless eighth. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Penn State Harrisburg for a CAC doubleheader at noon.
