#17 UMW Baseball Falls to #15 CNU, 10-5, in Wednesday CAC Clash

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team saw 15th ranked Christopher Newport University erupt for seven first inning runs en route to a 10-5 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday at Dickinson Stadium in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 14-6 on the season.

CNU jumped ahead, as eight straight batters reached after the leadoff man was retired. In the inning, the Captains had four hits, three batters hit by pitch, and two reach on errors.

The Eagles got one run back in the third, as Kyle Bynum singled and scored on a Thomas Wevaer double. CNU answered with three runs in the sixth inning to take a 10-1 lead, but the Eagles responded with a four-run seventh.

Right fielder Cody Beacorn singled and advanced on a wild pitch. After Tyler Truslow singled, Beacorn scored on a Bynum groundout. James Sink walked and stole second base, and Mitch Moynihan followed with a two-run double. James Keller plated Moynihan on an RBI single.

The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but were unable to pull any closer.

David Slupek singled and doubled for the Eagles, while Bynum singled twice.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Wesley College for a noon doubleheader in conference play.
