#12 UMW Baseball Drops Twinbill to Marymount in Saturday CAC Action

The 12th ranked University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader to Marymount University, 4-3 and 8-4, at Dickinson Stadium in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 13-5 overall, and 0-3 in league play.

In the opener, the Eagles fell behind as the Saints scored once in the second, but evened the score with one in the third. Stephen Johnston and Kyle Bynum walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Thomas Weaver followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Johnston with the tying run.

In the sixth, the Eagles went ahead with a pair of runs. Shortstop James Keller homered to lead off the inning, and Mitch Moynihan walked and scored on a Nykolai Ellis double.

The Saints answered with one run in the seventh and two in the eighth. After a two-out triple by Bynum in the ninth, UMW was unable to plate the tying run.

Keller had a single and home run to lead the Eagles, while singled and tripled. Paul McClure took the loss for the Eagles in relief, allowing two runs on two hits in .2 of an inning.

In the nightcap, Marymount erupted for six runs in the third inning en route to an 8-4 win. UMW scored once in the third on a Thomas Weaver RBI double, and one in the fourth on a wild pitch. UMW added another in the fifth, as Weaver walked and scored on a Mitch Moynihan sacrifice fly. UMW cut the deficit to 6-4 with a run in the sixth on an unearned run.

Marymount scored twice in the eighth to cap the scoring at 8-4.  Weaver and Moynihan singled and doubled, and Riley West singled twice for the Eagles.

Junior Mick McIntyre took the loss, allowing six runs (one earned) in three innings, with six hits allowed and no walks with one strikeout.

The Eagles will return to action on Monday when they visit Shenandoah University at 3:30 p.m.
