#18 UMW Baseball Falls at Va. Wesleyan, 5-1, on Monday Afternoon

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington saw host Virginia Wesleyan score four fifth inning runs to break open a tie game in downing the visiting Eagles, 5-1, on Monday in Virginia Beach. The Eagles slip to 13-2 on the season.

The Marlins struck first with a run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch, but UMW came back in the top of the fifth to tie the score as junior Kyle Bynum plated Nykolai Ellis on a run-producing single.

Va. Wesleyan pushed four runs across in the fifth inning to take the lead for good with four consecutive RBI singles.

Mary Washington was led by Bynum's single, double, and RBI, while Mitch Moynihan singled and walked and Thomas Weaver doubled.

Junior Nick McIntyre took the loss for UMW, allowing five earned runs in five innings on 10 hits, while walking one and striking out seven. Sophomore Joe Thompson struck out two in three spotless innings of relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Southern Virginia in the CAC opener at 3:00 p.m.
