UMW Baseball Sweeps Marymount to Improve to 19-5, 10-5 in CAC Play

The University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a doubleheader fro Marymount University at the Washington Nationals Youth Complex. The Eagles won the opener, 12-5, and the second game, 8-0. The Eagles are now 19-5 overall and 10-5 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

James Keller hit a pair of home runs to lead the Eagles in the opener. Keller and Jono Haught each had three hits, while Keller drove in five runs. Justin Kime had two hits and three runs scored, while Mitch Moynihan added two hits and three RBI. Kyle Bynum also had a pair of hits.

Ryan Van Assche gained the win, scattering seven hits in sevn innings with two earned runs and nine strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Eagles scored two in the first and two in the third and never looked back in an 8-0 triumph. Sophomore Nick McIntyre and junior Tyler Daig combined to allow five hits in nine innings, with 12 strikeouts and five hits allowed. McIntyre gained the win, allowing four hits in seven inngs with eight strikeouts.

The Eagles scored two in the first, as Keller, Haught, and Moynihan each singled to load the bases. Sink singled down the first base line to drive home Keller and Haught. In the third, Haught singled and advanced to third on an error. Moynihan followed with an RBI single, and scored on Brian Burns' two-out single.

Kyle Bynum and Justin Kime singled, and Moynihan and Sink walked to plate a run in the sixth. UMW scored three runs in the eighth, as Kime, Haught, and Moynihan singled to load the bases, and Sink followed with a fielder's choice to score one run. David Slupek added a two-run double in the frame.

Haught had three singles and three runs scored, while Moynihan added three hits, and Sink two hits and four RBI. Keller and Kime had two hits each as well.

The Eagles will visit Bridgewater College for a doubleheader on Monday at noon.
