UMW Baseball Drops Saturday Twinbill to Frostburg

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Frostburg State University, 13-6 and 13-3, on Saturday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 10-4 on the season.

In the opener, the Bobcats busted through with six first inning runs en route to the 13-6 win. The Eagles scored one in the bottom of the first as Justin Kime walked and scored on Jono Haught's RBI double.

With the score 8-1 in the fourth, the Eagles added another run, as James Sink and David Slupek singled to lead off, and Sink scored on a double play. The Eagles plated three runs in the seventh, as Haught walked and scored on a Mitch Moynihan triple. After Kyle Bynum was hit by a pitch, David Slupek singled home Moynihan, and James Keller followed with an RBI single as well.

Slupek's RBI double in the ninth capped the scoring. Haught singled twice and doubled with a walk, while Slupek added two singles and a double. Tyler Hoeflich singled twice for the Eagles as part of a 13 hit attack.

Bernie Mayflower took the loss, depite allowing two earned runs in four innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Frostburg scored four in the first and four in the second en route to a 13-3 win. The Eagles scored once in the first, as Mitch Moynihan hit a sacrifice fly to score Brian Burns. In the third, Burns singled and scored on a Haught double, and UMW scored on a throwing error in the fourth.

Haught doubled twice for the Eagles, moving his season average to .580. Burns and Slupek each had two hits as well.

The Eagles will be back in action with a home doubleheader against Penn State-Harrisburg on Sunday at noon.
