Haught's Six Total Bases Lead UMW Baseball to 6-5 Win Over Southern Virginia; Improve to 10-2

Senior catcher Jono Haught singled, doubled, and tripled, and scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 6-5 win over Southern Virginia University on Wednesday at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles improve to 10-2 on the year.

The Eagles gained the lead in the first, as Brian Burns led off with a walk, and scored on Haught's RBI double. The Knights built a 4-1 lead with two in the second and two in the third, but the Eagles answerd with three in the bottom of the third to tie the score. Haught hit an RBI single, and scored with Justin Kime on a Mitch Moynihan two-run double.

Both teams' bats went quiet until the bottom of the eighth, as Kime led off with a single, and scored on Haught's RBI triple. Haught came in to score the eventual winning run on a sacrifice fly from James Keller. The Knights mounted a charge in the ninth, but came up one run short.

In addition to Haught's three hits, UMW was led by Kime and James Sink, who each had two hits. Junior Ryan Van Assche earned the win in relief, allowing three hits in 3.2 innings, with no walks and five strikeouts. Nick McIntyre gained the save by pitching the ninth.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Frostburg State University in a noon doubleheader from Dickinson Stadium.
