UMW Baseball Falls to CNU in Tuesday CAC Contest

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 16-2 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University on Tuesday in Capital Athletic Conference action at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles fall to 12-12 on the season.

The Captains started early with their 21-hit attack, scoring four unearned runs in the first and adding five in the third. The Captains added a single run in the fifth, three in the seventh, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth.

The Eagles plated their first run in the first, as Jono Haught tripled with two outs, and scored on a James Keller single. In the ninth, Keller singled, advanced to second on a single from Derek Nease, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. James Sink followed with an RBI single to center.

UMW was led by Keller's three hits and Haught's triple, and Nease singled and walked. Freshman Erik Jorgensen took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in three innings. Andrew Slupek allowed no earned runs on two hits in three innings of relief.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Frostburg State University at 3:00 p.m.
