UMW Baseball Drops Twinbill at Wesley in CAC Action

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday, dropping the Eagles to 11-10 on the season. UMW fell in the opener, 2-1, before falling in the second, 5-2.

In the opener, UMW was limited to two hits - a double from junior Jono Haught and a single from sophomore James Keller. The Eagles scored first, with a run in the second, as Haught doubled, advanced on a sacrifice, and scored on a groundout.

Wesley tied the score in the third and postd the go ahead run in the eighth. Sophomore Tyler Daig went the distance for the Eagles, allowing two runs on seven hits in eight innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

In game two, Wesley went ahead with three runs in the second and two in the fourth. The Eagles scored in the sixth on a bunt single from James Sink, and once in the eighth on a double play grounder.

Thomas Weaver singled and doubled for UMW, while Brian Burns singled twice. Andrew Slupek took the loss for the Eagles, allowing three runs in two innings on three hits and a walk. Eagle relievers Bernie Mayflower and Erik Jorgensen combined to allow no earned runs in six innings of relief.

Mary Washington will host Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
