UMW Baseball Drops Sunday Twinbill to St. John Fisher

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a pair of games to St. John Fisher on Sunday at Dickinson Stadium, 10-3 and 5-4. The Eagles fall to 11-7 on the season.

In the opener, the Cardinals scored one in the first and three in the second, before UMW answered with a pair in the bottom of the second. James Sink singled and stole second, and scored on a Nolan Gilbert single. Gilbert advanced to second on a groundout and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Kevin Stein single.

St. John Fisher scored once in the third and five times in the fifth. UMW plated a run in the sixth when Gilbert walked, stole second and third, and scored on an error.

UMW had seven hits by seven different hitters, with Gilbert adding two steals, two runs, and an RBI. Starter Ben Sisk took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 2.2 innings on seven hits with one strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Cardinals scored once in the second before UMW scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Sink singled and stole second before moving to third on another hit from Gilbert. Both runners advanced on a balk. Gilbert would score on an error.

St. John Fisher scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead, before UMW tied the score in the sixth. The Eagles connected for four stright singles, with pinch hitter Connor Finnerty providing a two-run single to plate Kevin Stein and Thomas Weaver. The Cards score din the seventh and held on for the win.

Sink and Gilbert led UMW's 10-hit attack with two hits apiece. Senior seth taylor took the loss, allowing one run on two hits in the seventh inning.

The Eagles will visit Shenandoah University on Monday at 3:00 p.m.
