UMW Baseball Tops Randolph-Macon, 3-1, on Senior Day

Senior Seth Jordan had three hits, including one that drove in the eventual winning run, as the University of Mary Washington baseball team topped Randolph-Macon College, 3-1, on Wednesday at Dickinson Stadium before hundreds of fans turning out for Senior Day and the Spring Jubilee. The Eagles improve to 19-13.

The Yellow Jackets scored first in the top of the fifth after both starting pitchers threw shutout ball for four frames. but the Eagles tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Brendan Jones was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a Jordan single, and scored on a Jono Haught RBI groundout.

The Eagles went ahead in the seventh, as Jordan scored Kevin Stein on a single to right. UMW added an insurance run in the eighth as T.J. Cretney walked, stole second, and scored on a Connor Finnerty RBI single.

Senior Joey Carleton picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and striking out one. Jake Black gained the save with a perfect ninth inning.

Jordan had three hits and an RBI for the Eagles, while Conner Lilley and Finnerty each had two hits.

Mary Washington will return to action on Friday when they visit Salisbury University at 3:30 p.m.
