UMW Baseball Tops York, 16-2, in Series Finale

The University of Mary Washington baseball team rapped out a season-high 23 hits, as senior first baseman Seth Jordan went 5-6 with a home run, to lead the Eagles to a 16-2 rout of York College in the teams' series finale on Sunday in York. The Eagles improve to 18-13 on the season, and stay one game out of first in the league standings at 8-4.

The Eagles jumped ahead from the start, as sophomore catcher Jono Haught hit his second home run in as many days to put the Eagles ahead, 2-0, in the first. UMW added five in the third, as Brenda Jones led off with a single and scored on a Haught fielder's choice. Freshman Cam Kostyack and sophomore T.J. Cretney followed with RBI doubles, and Alex Bryant plated two runs with a single.

In the fifth, Cretney scored on a Conner Lilley sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Jordan singled and scored on a Kostyack hit, and Bryant followed with an RBI single to plate Kostyack. In the eighth, Kostyack singled and scored on a James Sink double.

In the ninth, Jordan hit a two-run homer, and Bryant again followed with an RBI single. Shortstop Kevin Stein plated two runs with a single to cap the scoring.

Senior lefty Torey Mancari gained the win for the Eagles, scattering two runs on five hits in seven innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Jake Black pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Jordan led the UMW offense with four singles and a homer, with three runs scored. Bryant was 4-5 with four RBI, and Kostyack was 3-6 with four runs scored. Sink and Stein each had three hits as well.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 3:30 p.m. at Dickinson Stadium.
