UMW Baseball Falls in Ninth at Randolph-Macon, 6-5

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision at Randolph-Macon College on Thursday afternoon in Ashland, Va. The Eagles fall to 17-11 on the season.

UMW jumped out with a four-run second inning. Freshman Cam Kostyack led off with a double and scored on a Conner Finnerty single. Junior Ben Sisk singled home Finnerty, and Kevin Stein was hit by a pitch and advanced to third while Sisk scored on an error. Conner Lilley hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.

After the Yellow Jackets ran ahead with single runs in the third and fifth and three in the sixth, UMW tied the score in the eighth as Seth Jordan and Jono Haught singled, and Jordan scored on a Kostyack sacrifice fly.

Randolph-Macon won in the ninth with a sacrifice fly.

Haught led the Eagles with a single and double. Joe Carleton took the loss, allowing one run in 2.1 innings of relief.

The Eagles will play at York College this weekend in a Capital Athletic Conference series starting with a doubleheader at 1:00 on Saturday.
