Mancari, Jordan Lead UMW Baseball Past St. Mary's, 11-0, for Series Sweep

Senior lefty Torey Mancari struck out 12 batters in seven innings and senior Seth Jordan had three hits to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to an 11-0 victory over St. Mary's College on Sunday afternoon at a rainy Dickinson Stadium. Jordan led UMW to the three-game weekend sweep, with eight hits in the three wins for UMW, now 12-7 on the season and 3-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Unlike in Saturday's pair of wins, UMW jumped ahead early on Sunday, and kept tacking on runs, scoring in every inning but two. The Eagles scored three in the first, as Connor Lilley led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice. Jordan singled to move Lilley to third, and Jono Haught singled to plate Lilley with the first run. Cam Kostyack followed with an RBI groundout, and T.J. Cretney singled to score Haught to up the lead to 3-0.

In the third, Jordan led off with a hit by pitch and moved to third on a single from Haught. Kostyack singled home Jordan to push the lead to 4-0. The Eagles scored three times in the fourth with a two out rally. Brendan Jones singled with two gone and stole second, and scored on a Jordan single to left. Haught followed by reaching on an error by the left fielder, moving Jordan to third, and both runners came around to score on wild pitches.

In the seventh, James Sink led off with a single and stole second. Jones doubled down the left field line to score Sink, and moved to third on another single from Jordan. Haught reached on a fielder's choice to score Jones and move the lead to 9-0.

UMW scored once in the seventh, as T.J. Cretney singled and scored on a Sink single to left. The Eagles added another in the eighth, as Kevin yarnell singled and moved to second on a Cretney single. Yarnell moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a hit by Chad Anglin.

Jordan went 3-3 with three runs scored, giving him eight hits in the three-game series, while Cretney also had three hits. Jones singled, doubled, and scored twice, Haught had two hits, two runs, and two RBI, and Lilley, Anglin, and Sink also singled twice.

Mancari allowed four hits in seven shutout innings, walking three and striking out 12 batters. Senior Joey Carleton pitched a pair of shutout innings in relief, running the UMW bullpen's streak to 28 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back seven games.

Mary Washington will host Division I Virginia State University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
