UMW Baseball Blanks Catholic, 6-0, in Wednesday Road Action

The University of Mary Washington baseball team saw catcher Jono Haught single, double, and triple, and Eagle pitching held host Catholic university to just two hits in a 6-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Eagles improve to 9-7 on the season.

The Eagles pushed across two runs in the fourth, as Haught led off with a single, and moved to third on a double from freshman shortstop Cam Kostyack. Right fielder T.J. Cretney followed with an infield single to plate Haught, and Kostyack scored on an error.

UMW scored three more times in the seventh, as Conner Lilley started a two-out rally with a single, and Brendan Jones followed with another single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Seth Jordan singled in two runs with a single. Haught followed with a triple to score Jordan.

With the bases loaded in the ninth, Jordan gained an RBI groundout to score the Eagles' sixth run.

Mayflower picked up the win for the Eagles, allowing just two hits in five innings with five strikeouts and no walks. jake Black followed with three innings of no-hit relief, and freshman david Phillips pitched a spotless ninth.

In addition to Haught's three hits, Lilley and Alex Bryant each had two hits, and Jordan knocked in three runs for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host St. Mary's College to open Capital Athletic Conference play with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
