UMW Baseball Falls to Frostburg, 7-4


The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to visiting Frostburg State University on Tuesday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 2-7 in league play and 5-10-1 overall.

The Eagles jumped on the scoreboard first, as Connor Wells walked and scored on Brent Steffey's single. Frostburg answered with single runs in the second and third, and scored two more in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. In the seventh, Seth Jordan doubled and scored on a Kevin Yarnell single to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Bobcats scored twice in the eighth on a two-run home run, with UMW plating two runs in the bottom of the ninth cutting the final deficit to 7-4.

Jordan and Steffey led the Eagles with a single and double each, while Yarnell and pitcher Ben Sisk each added two singles. Sisk took the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts. Sophomore Nick McGovern allowed just one hit - a two-run homer - but pitched well allowing two runs on one hit with one walk and six strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host SUNY Old Westbury at 3:00 p.m.
